University Lecture on Civility is an annual programme comprising of a public lecture and 3-4 public forums. The objective is to bring in scholars, artists and public figures in this region to CUHK to share their views on civility and value system to our staff and students, as well as other interested parties in the public.

*Speaker’s Biography:
Prof. Zhu Xueqin received his Doctor of History from Fudan University and had served as a Visiting Scholar in Harvard University. He is currently Professor in the Department of History in Shanghai University and Director of Peace and Development Studies Centre, Shanghai University. Prof. Zhu specialises in history of social thinking, and one of his research topics is on social changes and gradual alteration of thoughts in modern China. His publications include, inter alia,《道德理想國的覆滅——從盧梭到羅伯斯比爾》, 《風聲·雨聲·讀書聲》, 《書齋裡的革命》, 《中國與歐洲文化交流志》, 《思想史上的失蹤者》and《被遺忘與被批評的》.

Prof. Michel Bonnin, Professor at the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, France and Visiting Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, joined the 1968 Student Revolt in France during his school days.  He then came to Hong Kong to engage in academic research on rustication of China’s educated youth and on social and political issues of modern China.  Prof. Bonnin’s publications include, inter alia, “The Lost Generation - The Rustication of China’s Educated Youth (1968-1980)”.

*Speaker’s Biography:
Prof. Chan Kin Man is currently Associate Professor of Sociology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He graduated from CUHK with Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and received his Doctor of Philosophy from Yale University. As a former director of the Universities Service Centre for China Studies and founder of the Centre for Civil Society Studies of CUHK, Prof. Chan has been actively promoting civil society development in China. He has devoted himself to the Hong Kong democracy movement and was one of the major initiators of the “Occupy Central with Love and Peace” campaign. Prof. Chan’s publications include, inter alia, 《走向公民社會》 and《艱難的轉型:現代化與中國社會》 (Co-edited with Zhong Hua).

Dr. Derrick Au, a specialist in gerontology and rehabilitation, received his Medical Doctor degree at Brown University, USA. He had been serving in the Hong Kong public healthcare sector for more than 30 years and retired from the position of Director (Quality and Safety) of the Hospital Authority in 2016. Dr. Au joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong as the Director of CUHK Centre for Bioethics in March 2017. On top of his medical profession, Dr. Au has been writing newspaper columns in Ming Pao and Hong Kong Economic Journal in the pen name of “Au Man-hoi” for many years. He has published seven volumes of essays and a number of books on humanities, which include, inter alia,《醫院筆記:時代與人》(2016),《當我用心寫:一個醫生的十年記》(2017),《有詩的時候》(2017).

*Speaker’s Biography:
Mr. Chung Yung-feng, Taiwanese poet, community worker, music album producer and cultural administrator. Born in Meinung District of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, he was formerly Executive Director of Meinung Peoples’ Association; Director of Water Resources Bureau, Kaohsiung City Government; and Director-general of Cultural Affairs Bureau, Chiayi City Government. He was appointed as Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government from October 2016 to December 2018. Mr. Chung also has great expertise in lyrics writing. He had collaborated with singer Lin Sheng Xiang to produce seven albums and was awarded the Best Album Producer and the Best Pop Music Songwriter of the Golden Melody Awards. His publications include, inter alia, 《我等就來唱山歌》and《重遊我莊》.
