I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development encourages students to design and engage in social services in Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas that contribute to the all-round development of students.

Selection Criteria:

The following factors are taken into consideration when the applications are vetted:

  1. The degree of students’ initiative and participation;
  2. The degree of innovation of the project;
  3. The degree of understanding of the background of the served communities;
  4. Cost-effectiveness and efficiency;
  5. Whether the project encourages inter-disciplinary collaboration;
  6. Potential impact on societal issues or problems;
  7. Power to draw socio-cultural, educational and policy implications;
  8. Sustainability and continuation of the project;
  9. Number of beneficiaries;
  10. Level of support from other source(s).


CUHK students, student groups or university units (projects must be initiated by students)

Service Nature:

Projects could take place in Hong Kong, the Mainland or overseas, but must be of own devising.

Three rounds of vetting are available in 2019-20. Students should take note of the following schedule when submitting applications.

I·CARE Social Service Projects Scheme sponsors and coaches students to implement self-initiated social services.  It also organises training activities to strengthen students’ capacities in this respect. Details are as follows:

Sharing Session on “The Power of Youth - Bringing Sustainable Impact to the Society” (Poster)

In the era of globalisation, what impact can youths bring to Hong Kong, the Mainland and the international society? The speaker, who has ample experience in youth development and overseas service, will share the tips on designing social service projects and discuss with participants on their unlimited potential in serving the society.

Workshop of Practice cum Sharing Session

  3. Attain advisory support from ONE full time staff member holding an academic, administrative or professional position. Such staff will be the advisor of the project and will be responsible for: a) being the holder of the project’s financial account; and b) providing professional advices and support to the project.

  5. I·CARE undergoes vetting of applications. Shortlisted applications will be invited for interviews.
